2. Never Leave Your Keys in the Car

Another big cause of car theft is people leaving their keys in the car. This is especially common in the winter months, when people are warming up their car.

It only takes 5 seconds for a thief to hop in your car and drive away. So, keep your car keys with you at all times.

3. Never Leave Your Car Running Unattended

Always stay with your car while it’s running. Opportunistic thieves who see your car running may take advantage of the situation and drive away with your vehicle. 4. Avoid Leaving Valuables in Your Car

Don’t leave valuable in your car in plain view for thieves to see. Items to avoid leaving in your car include: purses, wallets, laptop bags, shopping bags, cell phones, loose change, keys and mp3 players. Don’t leave these items laying out on the dash, seat or floor.

Thieves act on impulse, so if they see something as they are perusing through the parking lot, they may take your possessions and run.

5. Be Aware of Your Surroundings

Finally, be aware of your surroundings. Make sure to park in well ­lit areas, near building entrances and in ­view of security cameras. This will help deter thieves.
